Double Deep Racking

HLM Double Deep Racking

Double Deep Racking has a similar basic structure to conventional pallet racking systems, but consists of two rows of Selective Racking installed back-to-back. This configuration reduces the number of forklift aisles required, increasing the usable warehouse floor area and overall storage density.

Double Deep Racking combines some of the advantages and limitations of Selective Racking and Drive-In Racking. It can provide more than 30% greater storage capacity than conventional Selective Racking, while offering approximately 50% pallet accessibility due to the double-deep configuration.

Double Deep Racking Components:

  • Omega Upright Frames with Punch Holes: Support the overall load of the racking system.
  • Horizontal & Diagonal Bracing: Connect the upright frames and distribute loads between the uprights.
  • Load Beams: Support pallets and connect the two upright frames to carry the specified load.
  • Pallet Guide Rails: Help keep pallets properly positioned and prevent them from shifting out of the racking position.
  • Upright Protectors: Protect load-bearing uprights and help maintain the structural integrity of the racking system.
  • Safety Guards: Help protect stored goods and reduce the risk of impact from forklifts and other warehouse equipment.
  • Bolts, Nuts & Connectors: Securely assemble the racking components and ensure overall system stability.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Double Deep Racking

Advantages of Double Deep Racking:

  • Double Deep Racking is formed by installing two Selective Racking rows back-to-back, reducing the number of forklift aisles and increasing usable floor utilization by up to approximately 30%, depending on the warehouse layout. This configuration also provides efficient forklift access for pallet handling while maintaining overall system stability.
  • HLM Double Deep Racking features a robust structure designed to handle high pallet loads and large volumes of goods, helping improve warehouse storage safety and operational reliability.
  • The system can be customized according to the warehouse layout and uses a bolted assembly design, making components easier to install, relocate, and reconfigure. Depending on the design, storage capacity can be increased by up to 50% compared with conventional industrial racking systems.
  • With racking heights of up to 11 m, the vertical spacing between storage levels can be adjusted to accommodate different pallet sizes and product dimensions.
  • HLM Double Deep Racking can be designed for a wide range of warehouse environments, with appropriate material and surface finishes selected according to factors such as temperature, humidity, and lighting conditions.

Limitations of Double Deep Racking

  • Specialized Forklift Requirements: Double Deep Racking requires suitable forklift equipment capable of safely accessing pallets stored at greater depths.
  • Moderate Handling Accessibility: Pallet access is more limited than with Selective Racking because pallets are stored two positions deep.
  • Reduced Selectivity: Direct access to individual pallets is approximately 50%, depending on the configuration and operating method.
  • Higher Initial Investment: The system may require a higher initial investment due to its specialized configuration and forklift requirements.
