Very Narrow Aisle Racking System

The VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) racking system is a specialized variation of Selective racking, engineered to meet modern warehouse requirements with heights up to 15 meters and narrow aisles where racking rows are positioned as close together as possible.

Consequently, it significantly increases storage capacity and maximizes spatial utilization. Operational efficiency relies on pairing the system with specialized VNA turret trucks operating on floor rail guidance systems.

VNA Racking Structural Components:

  • Sharing a similar structure to Selective Racking, VNA Racking incorporates additional accessories to optimize storage efficiency
  • Omega Upright Column: Serves as the primary load-bearing component for the entire racking structure.
  • Horizontal & Diagonal Bracing: Distributes forces across load-bearing columns.
  • Row Spacer: Connects and maintains the distance between two main racking frames.
  • Load Beam: Acts as the pallet placement beam and connects two load-bearing upright frames.
  • Pallet Support Bar: Reinforces beams to keep pallets stable.
  • Pallet Backstop Bar
  • Forklift Guide Rails: Provides directional guidance for forklifts
  • Frame Guard / Column Protector: Anchors load-bearing columns to the floor and ensures overall system stability.
  • Crash Barrier / Bumper Guard: Protects the racking system from forklift impacts.
  • Upright Column Guard: Specifically protects the base section of the omega upright column.
  • Bolts & Fasteners: Used to securely fasten system components together.

Advantages & Disadvantages of VNA Racking

Advantages of VNA Racking:

  • Capable of storing heavy-duty loads.
  • Maximizes storage capacity through racking height and pallet lifting capabilities up to 17m.
  • Saves 40%–50% more floor space compared to Selective racking in high-density warehouses by minimizing aisle widths.
  • Boosts material handling efficiency and throughput using specialized VNA forklifts.
  • High safety level with fast, accurate, and direct accessibility to goods, preventing collisions, operational accidents, and risk of damage during inbound/outbound handling.

Disadvantages of VNA Racking

  • High initial capital investment for both the racking system and specialized forklifts.
  • Demands high-precision super-flat warehouse flooring.
  • Unsuitable for harsh conditions such as deep-freeze / cold storage environments.
  • In the event of a system breakdown or maintenance, overall warehouse operations may be temporarily halted until the issue is resolved.

VNA Racking Applications

  • Ideal for small to medium-sized warehouses with limited floor area requiring high-volume storage capacity.
  • Well-suited for warehouses storing large inventory volumes of homogenous goods.
  • Suitable for warehouse environments demanding flexible, intensive, and high-frequency material handling operations.
